About
I teach at the Institute for Writing Studies at St John's University. My areas of interest are travel writing, modernist literature, composition, academic service-learning, and cultural studies.
I am interested in particular in seeing the travel book as a layered text where the first hand experiences of the author compete with the authority of the places, people, and cultures they confront.
I have published on the modernist travel book and am currently working on a project that examines the ways in which travel narratives throughout history have helped constitute certain objects, experiences, or policies for the public that would have otherwise gone unseen.
